3 Sneaky Ways To Drive Traffic For Free
Use these 3 methods to start driving buyer traffic QUICKLY
When you're building a community or trying to sell something online, traffic is going to be your biggest obstacle, I've talked about this before. Traffic doesn't have to come down to how many followers you have or how much you can spend on ads. There are other ways you can leverage OTHER people and get them to "promote for you"
I'm going to share some of the methods I use to drive traffic to new and existing offers that I absolutely love. I'll be honest here, Number THREE is one of my favorite and I don't do it enough but I am putting myself on notice RIGHT NOW to do more of them.
In this newsletter we'll just talk about 3, if I gave you too many they'd be hard to execute on, but I urge you to try these and IN THIS ORDER. You'll see one build on the other which is kinda cool.
3. A Different Way To Use Social Media
I've found that MOST people have social media wrong. They think they have to post a bunch of content and then hope people find them. In my opinion that is what you do when you are fortunate enough to have followers. When you are starting out, you need to GO TO YOUR AUDIENCE. Here are a few suggestions that you can add as tasks to do daily.
A. Comment on FIVE top posts every day. When you comment on posts, try to be a "thought leader". Don't just comment and say "Great post". No one will care about you or your post. Give an alternative opinion, disagree, it's ok!
B. Send 10 "connections" a day. This can be as easy as following someone, or requesting them on Facebook. It sounds silly, but when you follow someone, I've noticed around 20% of those people will follow me back and now I have their attention.
C. Send 10 DM's a day. I know, it sounds harsh but I do it and it's how I get people on this newsletter. The little things add up! When you try to lose weight, you can't lose a single pound in one day right? It takes multiple days of being on it... that's the same here.
D. This is going to sound TOO obvious, but POST MORE. Most of the reason people don’t post comes in 2 forms. They don’t think anyone is listening, and they don’t want to take the time to make good content. As you take more action on social you’ll have more listeners, but to get the content I do have a trick. I use a platform called Descript and they just launched something called “Overlord” which is a cool way to turn LONG content, into short. You can do two things here… upload your long form content, or other popular podcasts in your niche. These clips are now yours, and you can post them all over social. Short form is all you need for now, so this new feature in Descript is huge. One 20 min long form podcast or normal youtube video could get you 10-20 short form clips as well.
I'll be honest, all 3 of these I automate with software which I'll be sharing soon!
2. Ask your customers to share your content. This one sounds almost too obvious yet I notice SO MANY PEOPLE skip over this. If you have a newsletter, ask your subscribers to share… if you have a membership, create an affiliate program. This traffic costs you NOTHING up front and would only cost you if a sale happens as an affiliate. Look, every sale costs money… it’s either going to cost your time to make content that attracts people, money to spend it on ads, or you can use affiliates to drive traffic and pay them when they do. It’s effortless on your end (for the most part). If you are just starting, your first 50-100 members are GREAT people to ask to be affiliates. This is true on newsletters as well and I wouldn’t be walking the walk if I didn’t now ask you to SHARE OUR NEWSLETTER!
If you want to share, feel free to grab your special share link at the bottom and you’ll see that you’ll get some freebies if you share and someone signs up!
3. Go Talk On Podcasts
I absolutely LOVE podcasts. I love listening to them, I’m not much of a “watcher”. Whether you listen or watch or hate podcasts… they are one of the best places to get traffic but it’s also not straight forward, so I’ll explain the two things you need to think about before starting your podcast tours.
Back when I was growing up, Podcasts were talk shows… every time someone had a movie, someone was releasing an album, or had a reason to get attention… they would go on a late night show and now they go on podcasts. The beautiful thing about podcasts is that you don’t have to be a celebrity or drop an album. Maybe you want to promote a course, a physical product, etc… it can absolutely be done with podcasts in the next 30 days.
First - You’ll need to get ON podcasts and most podcast hosts aren’t going to come knocking on your door, you’ll need to GO TO THEM! Before trying to get on a podcast you need to provide people with some evidence that you’ll have a good episode. If you have content on social, that helps… but they really will want to see a form of long form content that you’ve filmed. I always send an email with information about me, a podcast I’ve filmed on my own, and if you have a podcast you’ve filmed with someone else you should include that. Find the top 50 podcasts in your niche or related to your niche, email them asking to join them about a specific topic and give them reasons why YOU would be a great guest.
An example of a good reason could be:
Our episode will likely create no less than 10 viral clip moments that can be used in short form as well as helpful long term clips
Second - DO NOT PITCH on the podcast. I see far too many people get this wrong. DO NOT use a podcast as your way to “sleep with your audience”. You’re moving too fast. Your audience wants to be caressed… they want to be shmoozed a bit… don’t go for the kill immediately. If I was to give you one big piece of advice about podcasts it’d be to have ZERO agenda and don’t mention your product unless you are asked about it and even then try not to promote it.
Monetizing a podcast spot is not a straight line. You start by getting on the podcast, then they hear your story… they hear your journey… some of them will relate to you. After that they will then search you out, they will look for your book, they will look for your course… so BE FINDABLE on social media. Feel free to mention your social several times on a podcast but don’t tell them “you can grab my book on Amazon”. It feels like the entire podcast was for you.
Remember earlier when I told you to take long form content and clip it for social media… well this is when that short form content you posted will shine! Now people will find you on social, see your inspiring clips, and follow you!
We want people to feel inspired to find US and not that we forced them to…
Here’s a MAJOR SUGGESTION for anyone looking to get traffic to a product QUICKLY using podcasts…
Find a team that can help you get on them! This is a major key that makes it significantly easier to actually book deals. Yes you’ll pay, but it’s worth it and likely pays for itself (if you sell your own product) in one gig AND they have a better chance of getting you on bigger podcasts.
This is a good time to mention todays newsletter sponsor. Rarely will you find a sponsorship spot that actually fits as perfectly with our content… but this is one we HIGHLY recommend you check out. If you are following our material you are either about to launch your own paid community (which would be a great thing to promote via Podcast, affiliates, and posting your own content) or you already have something to promote so getting a team to get your voice magnified is a great way to get velocity!
Make sure you take a second and check out what they offer!
That’s it for us today! You’ll notice a lot more content following this newsletter about the three topics mentioned above as we are diving DEEP into all three right now to grow our newsletter and community.
I highly suggest you put an action plan in place to take advantage of as many of the traffic methods above that you can!
Don’t forget, there’s a share link below and if you get 5 people to join our newsletter we’ll send you an outline of TWENTY (yes, 20) different ways to drive traffic to your product or service.
Thanks so much… see you in the next one!
